Russian Drone Strikes Result in Fatalities in Belgorod Region
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that overnight strikes by Russian forces had damaged power generation facilities and substations in nine regions across Ukraine, leading to widespread emergency outages.

Ukrainian drone strikes have resulted in a significant loss of life in Russia's Belgorod region, where local authorities reported three fatalities on Wednesday. The Belgorod region shares a border with Ukraine and has been at the forefront of recent military action between the two countries.
In response to these attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that overnight strikes by Russian forces had damaged power generation facilities and substations in nine regions across Ukraine, leading to widespread emergency outages in many cities. This escalation comes as temperatures begin to drop ahead of winter, exacerbating the severity of the situation.
Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed on Telegram that it had targeted two power stations in Ukraine's Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions. These strikes are part of a broader pattern of Ukrainian allegations that Russia is deliberately targeting its energy infrastructure.
As a result of these overnight attacks, critical infrastructure was severely impacted, causing hours-long power and water outages across Kyiv and surrounding areas. In response to the crisis, residents were advised to use public drinking water fountains, while emergency centres offering hot tea and power points to charge devices were set up in the worst-hit regions.
Additionally, power outages also affected Crimea, a peninsula that Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014 and is home to approximately 2.5 million residents. According to reports, temporary outage schedules are now in place due to Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure, although the exact number of households affected remains unclear.
Reports have emerged of power cuts ordered by Russia-held Crimea following an incident outside the region, according to a Moscow-installed official quoted by Reuters news agency.
In addition to Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, Russian forces have also targeted several other regions, including Poltava, Dnipro, Kirovohrad and Rivne, with reports indicating that these areas were hit by Russian strikes. This information comes from both Ukraine's emergency service and local officials, as cited by Reuters.
A Ukrainian drone attack in southern Russia has caused a fire at a major warehouse belonging to Ozon, Russia's Amazon equivalent. The facility, located in the town of Adygeysk within the Republic of Adygea, is owned by Ozon and was targeted during an aerial assault by Ukraine.
Russia's Defence Ministry claims that it has successfully downed 709 Ukrainian drones across 14 regions, including Crimea and the Black and Azov seas. Meanwhile, amidst ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Kremlin officials have expressed hope for continued peacemaking efforts from US President Donald Trump.
The Kremlin has downplayed concerns that a change in Congress could impact US President Donald Trump's efforts at peacemaking, dismissing it as an internal matter for the United States.
US Democratic control of the legislature is expected to bring a more vocal pro-Ukraine majority, which could pressure Trump to alter his stance on the conflict. However, experts suggest that there is little hope of the US returning as a major financial backer of Ukraine in the near future.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded Melania Trump the Order of Princess Olga for her significant personal contribution to humanitarian aid and children in Ukraine, according to a presidential decree. The award honours women who have made notable contributions to Ukrainian society.
