Instinct, a startup valued at $10 billion after its latest funding round, is expanding into group chats to help users manage various tasks and activities with their friends. The AI agent can be added to group chats for planning travel, booking event tickets, running fantasy sports leagues, organizing carpools, or coordinating Thanksgiving gatherings.

Notably, Instinct's group chat feature will work even if a friend does not have an account with the company, allowing users to collaborate and communicate with others without requiring them to join. This flexibility could make Instinct more appealing to users who value seamless collaboration with friends and family.

The move positions Instinct as a major player in the consumer AI market, where it is competing with top rivals like Meta's Muse. While Meta's Muse does not currently offer group chat functionality, its older app, Meta AI, can be integrated into various messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook.

Instinct's push into group chats comes on the heels of OpenAI's launch of ChatGPT Dots, personal AI agents that can also be used in collaborative workspaces called ChatGPT Spaces. These spaces allow humans and Dots to work together, further blurring the lines between human and artificial intelligence collaboration.

As group chats become increasingly popular, concerns about data security and user privacy are growing. To address these issues, Instinct has implemented measures to ensure that users' personal information remains protected.

When a user's Instinct agent connects with another agent in a group chat, it will first ask for permission before sharing any information or taking action. Users also have the option to designate which groups they trust and can revoke this trust at any time if needed. This approach allows users to maintain control over their data and security.

The company has taken additional steps to safeguard user privacy by isolating group Instinct agents from personal accounts, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive information. Furthermore, pending replies from a user's personal agent are held back until they are explicitly shared with the rest of the group.

This new feature is initially available to early access users but will be rolled out to all users soon. To gain access, users can simply ask their Instinct agent to put them on the list for trying out this and other recent additions.

This move allows Instinct's AI agent to interact with multiple people in real-time, providing a more dynamic and engaging experience. Users can now engage their Instinct agent in conversations with friends or colleagues who don't have an Instinct account. This development marks the next step in Instinct's mission to make its AI technology accessible to everyone.

To utilize this feature, users simply need to ask their Instinct agent to put them on a list for trying out recent additions. The agent will then facilitate access to these features, enabling users to explore and interact with them in real-time. This streamlined process aims to simplify the user experience and make it easier for people to discover new capabilities.

By extending its AI capabilities to group chats, Instinct is pushing the boundaries of what's possible with conversational AI technology.
