How Jets could fill crater-sized hole at wide receiver before and in NFL draft

One of the goals Jets general manager Darren Mougey had entering free agency was to fill some of the team’s roster holes enough that he would not feel like he had to draft for a positional need next month.

That is why he spent money to fill holes on the defense and at guard. But he still has one massive hole on the roster — and it’s a familiar one for anyone who watched the Jets last year. The Jets don’t have a true No. 2 wide receiver to complement Garrett Wilson.

The good news for Mougey and all Jets fans is the team does not have a game to play until September. There is still time to fill the need. But the non-draft options seem like they are dwindling.

At the moment, it appears like Mougey needs to both add a veteran and take a wide receiver with one of his early picks. It would be a shock if he used the No. 2 overall pick on a receiver, but he could use his second first-round pick (No. 16) or his first second-round pick (No. 33) on one. Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, Makai Lemon and Denzel Boston are ranked highly with Omar Cooper Jr., Chris Brazzell II and KC Concepcion right behind them.
