In the most trying times, Brian Daboll resisted the public outcry to fire Shane Bowen.
The embattled defensive coordinator returned the favor Thursday when he fell on the sword for the four defensive collapses that contributed to Daboll’s firing on Monday.
“There’s a responsibility that falls on me,” Bowen said. “We haven’t been good enough defensively, particularly closing out games. Evaluating everything – scheme, personnel, different situations what we can do to continue to improve. We have to find ways to win these games and not give it up in the fourth.”
Daboll hired Bowen after he was fired by the Titans along with head coach Mike Vrabel after the 2023 season and then retained him after last season despite Giants owner John Mara’s harsh criticisms of the defense.
Bowen expressed his gratitude for Daboll and how he “can’t say enough good things about him as a leader.”
