This announcer might need some glasses.

Midway through the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game between Mississippi State and Tennessee, Bulldogs kicker Kyle Ferrie missed widely on a 42-yard field goal attempt, with the ball being shanked to the right.

SEC Announcer Dave Neal, however, made it sound like Ferrie nailed the kick right in between the uprights.

“And this kick is good,” Neal said on the SEC broadcast.

Neal seemingly did not realize that the kick went astray immediately after and continued to praise Ferrie’s play.

“Boy he’s got some kind of leg,” Neal continued.

Neal then quickly stopped in his tracks after finally realizing that Ferrie actually missed the kick.

“Oh no good, excuse me,” Neal said. “He yanked that one. Boy he’s frustrated. His first miss of the year. It is 20-17.”

As Neal mentioned, Ferrie had yet to miss a field goal attempt this season, and nailed a 51-yard kick earlier in the game.

It remains unclear as to why Neal did not see Ferrie’s blatant miss at first.

Mississippi State ended up getting bested by the Volunteers in an overtime, 41-34 loss, despite a shaky game from Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar.

Aguilar, 24, threw for 335 passing yards with a touchdown, but had two interceptions while completing 24 passes out of 40 attempts.

Aguilar has thrown for at least 200 passing yards in all of his 29 career NCAA starts, which is currently the longest active streak in the FBS.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel praised Aguilar — who transferred from Appalachian State ahead of this season — following the Volunteers’ blowout win over Alabama-Birmingham on Sept. 20.

“Joey, what I love about him is that whether it is good play, bad play, good series, bad series, he has the same demeanor coming off the sideline he goes and approaches the next play the same way,” Heupel said.
