Wenceel Perez will likely be unavailable for the Tigers’ matchup with the Astros on Wednesday after the Detroit outfielder sustained a freak injury in his team’s training room Tuesday.

Following the Tigers’ loss to the Astros, Perez was hurt when he was accidentally struck in the face by a plyo band.

The team has not officially ruled him out for the Tigers’ mid-week matinee at Daikin Park in Houston, though it did announce the 26-year-old is undergoing further evaluation.

Perez started in right field for the Tigers on Tuesday, and he went 0-for-3 at the plate with one walk in the Tigers’ 4-2 defeat.

This season, he’s batting .180 with seven home runs and 17 RBI in 53 total games.

Perez’s ailment is just the latest for the Tigers, who have battled injury issues all season.

Tarik Skubal, Justin Verlander, Jack Flaherty, Casey Mize, Gleyber Torres and Javier Baez — amongst many others — have all spent time on the injured list this year.

With Perez wounded, the Tigers are slated to start Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene and Matt Vierling in their outfield on Wednesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 11:10 a.m. PT.
