The Jets got embarrassed by the Cowboys on Sunday, losing 37-22 in a game that was not as close as the score indicates. Here are some thoughts and observations from the game:

1. The Jets let it be known what their plan was coming into this season with Justin Fields as their quarterback. They were not going to rely on Fields to carry the team. Instead, they were going to play good defense, have an effective run game centered around Fields and Breece Hall and just ask Fields not to turn the ball over.

It’s not working.

For one, the defense stinks and is way worse than anyone, including Aaron Glenn, could have imagined. The run game has been pretty good in most games but fumbles are killing the Jets. Braelon Allen coughed one up on the opening drive in Miami and then Hall fumbled before halftime on Sunday. Both turnovers were huge swings in momentum in the game.
