The Chiefs’ offense was quiet to start the season.

In their Week 1 opener against the Chargers in Brazil on Friday, Kansas City notched just six points on two field goals in the first half, putting them down seven before the break.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was lackluster to start, completing 12-of-21 passes for 98 passing yards in the first two quarters.

Meanwhile, for Los Angeles, Justin Herbert had 171 passing yards, completing 12-of-18 passes along with throwing a touchdown to receiver Quentin Johnston in the first quarter.

Chargers tight end Tyler Conklin was the first-half leader in receiving yards — 50 on two receptions.

Travis Kelce also did not do much the first half, having one reception for 10 yards.

Kelce, 35, also got into a nasty collision with Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy midway through the first quarter, with the 22-year-old having to leave the game with a shoulder injury.

During just the third play of the game, Mahomes targeted Worthy toward the left, but he was met with Kelce running to the right, with the two crashing while the ball was in the air.

After initially being ruled questionable to return following the blow, Worthy was downgraded to out with a shoulder injury early on in the second quarter.

Prior to the game, Kelce told reporters that he was “pumped” to play in front of the South American crowd.

“I’m pumped about tomorrow,” Kelce said, “and I’ll be sure to make sure I say hello to everybody in the crowd, knowing that they took the time to come out and see some American sports.”

Kelce also commented about his potential retirement, noting that he is still “feeling young.”

“It’s the last one on the contract right now,” Kelce said when asked if this was his final season. “But I’ll tell you what, I’m feeling young and I’m feeling ready to rock, baby.”

The Chiefs scored their first touchdown of the year in the third quarter, with Mahomes capping off an 11-play, 80-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run.
