Mets backup outfielder Tyrone Taylor wore a wide smile and carried the symbolic gold-encrusted championship belt out of the clubhouse after turning boos into cheers and happy chants at Citi Field. Taylor changed a huge game with one big, beautiful swing to help beat the crosstown rival Yankees. And for once, all felt right in Mets land.
“Bummed out to happy,” was how Taylor aptly described the mood swings.
All the Mets felt elation after Taylor turned the game around. But one overriding question remains: Can one surprise blast help turn a whole season around?
The Citi Field crowd had understandably thinned considerably by the time Taylor sent his ninth-inning, two-out, three-run, game-tying home run deep into the left field bleachers. By now, we get why the fans may not completely believe.
