Mets, Freddy Peralta aren't close in extension talks

Word is the Mets and Freddy Peralta are far enough apart on an extension that there isn’t much optimism anything will be done soon, and perhaps even before free agency.

The Mets are open to talking in-season, but it’s unclear if Peralta is. Peralta told The Post he seeks “seven or eight” years, and the Mets are disinclined to give players, and particularly pitchers, extensions of more than four or five years.

The Mets did give Francisco Lindor a 10-year extension but that was well before David Stearns took over.

Tommy Pham, who signed a minor-league deal ($2.25M in the majors) to return to the Mets, has maintained a good rapport with owner Steve Cohen. But this was said to be the call of baseball ops.
