When was the last time a Knicks season carried an expectation of NBA Finals or failure? It’s not a quantifiable concept, but probably the 1990s, a generation ago.

Now these Knicks are staring at that high bar, and with the season opener less than a week away, we thought it would be a good time to answer six more pressing questions (in honor of No. 6 Trent Tucker), before next Wednesday’s tip-off.

Q: What does Malcolm Brogdon’s sudden retirement mean for the rotation and the remaining roster decisions?

Sports+: Well, it solves one potential problem and creates another. First, it means the Knicks don’t need to make a trade to keep either Landry Shamet or Garrison Mathews. Before his retirement Wednesday — which, according to a league source, was spurred by a realization from the point guard that he was physically and mentally drained and had lost his hunger — Brogdon was slated for a roster spot. As a result, the Knicks needed to clear space under the second apron to ink another veteran, either Shamet or Mathews.
