An Ohio high school baseball player has died after suffering a “severe medical emergency,” his school said.
Maddox Graser, an athlete at Wooster High School, suffered the emergency earlier this week, according to a statement from the school.
A post on Facebook said Graser “was an outstanding student, athlete and friend, and he will be deeply missed in our building.
“We know there are often no words that can console or relieve us from our grief, and over the coming days and weeks, we expect students may experience a number of emotions. It is our priority to support them through it.”
Maddox, a sophomore, was also memorialized with a post on the Wooster Athletic Department’s Instagram account.
“In memory of our brother,” a graphic read. “We will make sure they remember your name. We LOVE you, #2!”
Maddox was also part of the Wooster wrestling team.
In its statement, Wooster High School said counselors were on-site to provide assistance to students if needed.
The school also said it would be open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday for students requiring counseling.
A GoFundMe to support Graser’s family has already raised over $64,000.
The post says there will be a walk of honor in memory of Graser, who is donating his organs.
