The Yankees and Red Sox wrap up their weekend series in the Bronx on Sunday night.

The Bombers will send their American League Cy Young contender Cam Schlittler to the mound as he looks to bounce back from his worst start of the 2026 MLB season.

The young right-hander gave up a season-high five runs (four earned) while striking out just three batters over 4 ⅓ innings versus the Guardians last time out.

It was the first time all season that Schlittler didn’t toss at least five innings on the mound, and the first time in a month he didn’t get through the sixth inning.

What was perhaps most concerning was Schlittler’s dip in velocity, with his fastball dropping from a yearly average of 97.7 mph to 96.8 during the outing.

Schlittler said after the game that he “felt a little bit off” and vowed to come better prepared for Sunday’s start.

While a slower heater can be a cause for concern among Yankees brass, I’m not willing to write off the emerging star because his fastball dipped a tick.

Schlittler dominated the Red Sox last time he faced them in April, tossing eight innings of one-run ball, allowing only a solo home run off the bat of Carlos Narvaez.

He’s thrown fewer than 80 pitches in each of his past two starts.

Even with some fatigue possibly setting in during his first full season in the big leagues, that should leave plenty of juice for Schlittler to work deep against a Boston lineup that’s been among the worst in the AL this season.

The Play: Cam Schlittler to record over 18.5 outs (+125, Caesars Sportsbook)
