Yankees restrict ticket sales for New England area: ‘Second-rate franchise’

Bostonians, think twice about traveling south to the Bronx on Tuesday night.

The Yankees are seemingly trying to protect home-field advantage by any means necessary, as indicated on Ticketmaster’s official page, by restricting Red Sox fans from attending the game.

“Yankee Stadium is located in the Bronx, New York…Orders by residents outside New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania will be canceled without notice and refunds given,” a warning on the Ticketmaster site reads.

This means that any Red Sox fan looking to travel in for Tuesday’s Game 1 of the Wild Card round of the playoffs will have to do so with a third-party ticket provider like Vivid Seats.

The Yankees, who led Major League Baseball in home runs and runs scored by a wide margin, will have a tough task ahead of them Tuesday as they face AL Cy Young candidate Garrett Crochet (18-5, 2.59 ERA).

According to a Yankees spokesman, the policy was first implemented in 2018 in order to allow opportunities for fans more likely to attend postseason game the chance to buy tickets.

Legendary New York radio host Mike Francesa was livid that the Yankees went the ticket restriction route.

“Yankees blocking Red Sox fans from buying tickets. That is what second-rate franchises do,” Francesa wrote in a post on X. “The once-proud Bombers have become a sad joke!!!”

Francesa previously said on his podcast that he was excited and actually wanted to see the Red Sox face the Yankees, despite it profiling as a tough matchup for Aaron Boone’s bunch.

The Yankees won just four of 13 games against the Red Sox during the regular season and are looking to reverse that course Tuesday in front of what will likely be a sellout crowd.
