Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers and his wife, Thayer, welcomed a baby Bomber into the family, he announced on social media.
The couple had a baby boy that “decided to come early,” Weathers wrote in a post on X.
“Thank you Lord for a healthy baby and a healthy wife,” he wrote along with a photo of a baby’s footprint on a baseball.
“Just in absolute awe of the Lord and how he provides…. [Thayer] you are an absolute rockstar we love our little man Paul David Weathers,” he captioned a post on Instagram.
Weathers is the son of former major league pitcher David Weathers, who was part of the 1996 World Series-winning Yankees squad, and he paid homage to his dad with the middle name of his new son.
The Yankees had placed the left-hander on the paternity list ahead of Wednesday’s game with the Red Sox in Boston and recalled righty Jake Bird from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The 26-year-old was not slated to take the mound during the series against Boston and Yankees skipper Aaron Boone doesn’t believe that he’ll miss his next scheduled start, which is Saturday in Houston.
Weathers is 1-2 this season through five starts and has posted a 3.18 ERA during that span.
He threw 7 ⅓ innings of scoreless baseball in his last start on Sunday in the Yankees’ 7-0 win over the Royals.
Weathers joined the Yankees earlier this year when he was traded by the Marlins for outfield prospects Dillon Lewis and Brendan Jones, and infield prospects Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus.
