The past and future collide in the present Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.
Cam Schlittler and Trey Yesavage — the two fresh-faced pitchers who spun double-digit strikeout gems last October — will duel for the first time in their careers when the Yankees host the Blue Jays.
“Hopefully we’re facing each other for the next X amount of years,” Schlittler, 25, said before Tuesday’s second game of a four-game series. “That’s the situation you want to be in. He’s a good young player. I think it’ll be a fun matchup for both sides.”
Yesavage, 22, made his MLB debut last September and burst into the national spotlight by striking out 11 against the Yankees in 5 ¹/₃ no-hit innings in Game 2 of the division series.
