Two matches remain in the 2026 World Cup, but before Spain and Argentina meet for the title, France and England will face off for third place.
There isn’t much on the line, aside from a $2 million bonus to the winning team and bronze medals, but the Golden Boot race isn’t over and French star Kylian Mbappé could still make a play for it. Mbappé is currently tied for first with Lionel Messi, who will play on Sunday.
France entered the tournament as favorites and seemed to coast through it, allowing just two goals prior to the semifinal. They faced another favorite, Spain, and both the offense and defense were no match for the current European champions. Spain won, 2-0, to advance to the final.
England faced familiar World Cup foe, Argentina, in the semifinals. The Three Lions held a 1-0 lead into the 85th minute, but the defending champions mounted yet another comeback, a trend in this World Cup, scoring twice in less than 10 minutes to pull ahead 2-1.
