Lidl has urgently recalled one of its own-brand sweet snacks from shelves over fears it ‘may cause a burning sensation’ when eaten.
Food safety watchdogs stuck a ‘do not eat’ alert on two of the supermarket’s Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzel products.
It is believed the pretzels may ‘potentially cause discomfort and make them unsafe to the consumer’.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA), which published the alert, issues recalls when problems are spotted with food that means it should not be sold.
Lidl said the recall only impacts four batches of its 140g packs of milk chocolate and dark chocolate pretzels.
All affected products have the batch codes 8509 and 8535, with best before dates of February 28, 2025 and June 30, 2025.
The supermarket said: ‘It cannot be ruled out that, if consumed, this product may cause a burning sensation in the mouth.
‘If you have purchased the above product do not consume it.

Customers have been advised that bags of 140g Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzels in milk chocolate and dark chocolate, with batch code number 8535, should not be eaten
‘Instead, please return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.’
The FSA also added: ‘Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.
‘These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.’
The recall comes just days after Coca-Cola recalled products from UK supermarket shelves amid health concerns over higher levels of chlorate found in their products.
Coca Cola’s Great Britain arm confirmed a ‘small number’ of their products had been pulled from supermarkets, restaurants and cafes.
The drinks giant said ‘a small’ amount of Appletiser multipack cans had been recalled from retailers, while cans of Sprite Zero, Coca-Cola, as well as zero sugar and diet versions of the product, had been pulled from some restaurants and cafes.
Yesterday, Birds Eye also urgently recalled its Goodfella’s Stonebaked Thin Garlic Bread sold in Co-op for as little as £2.50.
It is feared the frozen snack was mistakenly packed and actually contains cheese.
The ingredients are not featured on the label and may pose a risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk.
