Not only is Blue Jays superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. not overpaid, he is proving to be underrated.

And hard as it is to believe considering Shohei Ohtani’s two historically great games, but Guerrero is actually outhitting the all-world two-way phenom with his 1.306 October OPS. Though Guerrero isn’t getting on the mound anytime soon, he has been a huge plus at first base with his terrific throws to all four bases.

“I respect Ohtani a lot. And I know myself and him, we are the talk of the series. But when we are between the lines, we compete,” Guerrero said through an interpreter after his two-run home run off Ohtani helped win Game 4 and evened the World Series at two games apiece.

The Jays seemed reluctant to accede to his $500M ask almost until they eventually did, but it was the best decision they ever made. He’s a superstar who’s a team player from Canada who’s only 26 and wanted to stay. For years Jays management had its own ideas about his value. But eventually, Guerrero had the right idea.
