It has been five years since Conor McGregor last stepped foot in the Octagon, but the polarizing UFC star will be back in action against fellow MMA great Max Holloway at UFC 329 in July.

McGregor may be the A-side in this fight, but he opened as the underdog at sportsbooks this week. Holloway is a sizable favorite at -410 odds to win the bout, with McGregor listed at +290 odds at FanDuel.

The fight, first reported by The Post last Friday and announced by the promotion the next day, will be competed at welterweight, the first time that Holloway will fight at 170 pounds.

McGregor, who will be just three days shy of turning 38 years old on fight night, hasn’t fought in five years since breaking his leg in a loss against Dustin Poirier in 2021.

McGregor has had a number of lengthy layoffs over the years, but this most recent stint of inactivity is more than double the amount of time he’s missed in the past.

He was slated to have a return fight against Michael Chandler in 2024 at UFC 303, but that fight fell through when McGregor suffered a toe injury.

The fight against Holloway is a rematch 13 years in the making after the two men faced off in 2013, and McGregor won by unanimous decision.

Holloway, 35, has remained active deep into his career. He last fought against Charles Oliveira for the BMF championship at UFC 326 in March, but came up short in a unanimous decision loss.

Sports betting apps and sites not only have Holloway as the favorite to win the fight outright, but he’s also -145 to win by knockout. He famously knocked out Justin Gaethje in the last second of their classic bout at UFC 300 in 2024 and is tied for second among all active fighters with 11 KO wins in his career.

McGregor, who has eight KO wins, is +460 to win by KO and +1300 to win by decision.
