This special St. John’s squad really is New York’s team

WASHINGTON — You heard a lot of stories this week from St. John’s fans of all different eras, of all different backgrounds, of all different relationships with the university. 

Here is one text thread between two friends from Long Island, Jerry McNeil of Wantagh and Jim Hughes of Holbrook, neither of whom attended St. John’s, both of whom were willing to move heaven and earth to make the scoot down I-95. 

JERRY: “No-go on the tickets. Sorry.” 

JIM: “We should go anyway. Find a bar. Make a few friends.”
