Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. has a dream that Giants fans also hope comes true.
The wide receiver is returning to the Giants eight years after he played his last season for Big Blue and more than a decade after he made one of the greatest catches in NFL history on “Sunday Night Football” against the Cowboys.
Now that he’s back, he’s hoping he can replicate the memorable play.
“Funny enough, I haven’t told too many people this but I had a huge dream — that there was some kind of catch 2.0,” Beckham told Bilt founder and CEO Ankur Jain while playing a game to win members of the rewards and neighborhood commerce platform free rent.
“We’ll see what that means. It’s just a dream, but the first tattoo I ever got said ‘Make dreams a reality’ so a lot of mine have come true.”
The Giants open the season versus Dallas on “Sunday Night Football” at MetLife Stadium, setting the stage for that dream to come to fruition all these years later.
Beckham made the comments as part of an announcement on Monday about the NFL wide receiver partnering with Bilt for its August “Rent Free” collaboration, naming him an exclusive collaborator.
The seemingly impossible one-handed catch Beckham made on Nov. 23, 2014, has stood the test of time as one of the greatest plays ever made and remains one of the defining moments of OBJ’s time with the Giants.
Beckham returns to the Giants after spending the first five seasons of his NFL career in the Big Apple. He was dealt to the Browns in 2019 during the offseason, though it wasn’t a move he wanted.
“Well first, I never wanted to leave,” Beckham said. “But it’s just my home. There’s no place better than New York. I just want to win one for the Giants more than anything and I’m here to give it my all, give it my heart, during my last couple of years. We’ll see what God got planned.”
The addition of Beckham reunites the receiver and head coach John Harbaugh, who coached Beckham in 2023 when he played in Baltimore.
Harbaugh told reporters in June that Beckham was in “really, really good shape” and that he understood that he had to be a player that the coaching staff believed “would have a chance to make a difference in NFL games.”
“You have to be that kind of player. Who knows better what kind of player that is than Odell Beckham,” Harbaugh said. “I put JuJu [Smith-Schuster] in that same category. They’re different, but the same veteran mindset. He understood that. So get to work. We’re going to find out over the course of the next week and training camp if that’s going to be something he’s going to be able to do for the team. If he can, great. If he can’t, then that’s okay, too. But he’ll have taken his shot.”
