They play pickup inside a chain link fence on the legendary West 4th courts known as The Cage because they are addicted to basketball, in a city where everyone is now.
And this was where an orange bus called the HoopBus, adorned with the jersey numbers of Knicks players and Always Knicks and New York Forever blaring Fat Joe’s “Lean Back,” pulled up and parked on West 3rd Street.
Out stepped the finalists of the HoopBus’ Jordan Clarkson lookalike contest, conducted earlier at Washington Square Park, and the winner, 11-year-old Daniel Jimenez of Maspeth, Queens, conducted an interview alongside his father inside The Cage clad in his signed “00” Clarkson jersey and gold crown.
“I was so excited when I won,” Daniel said.
