Tigers ace Tarik Skubal hitched a ride with Guardians manager Stephen Vogt to visit David Fry after he was hit in the face with a pitch attempting to bunt.

The scary moment during Tuesday night’s 5-2 Guardians win stopped a crucial AL Central contest in its tracks during the sixth inning when Skubal threw a 99 mph fastball that connected with the Cleveland DH’s face, sending him to the ground in pain after he attempted to bunt.

Fry suffered multiple minimally displaced left-sided facial and nasal fractures, though he is expected to make a full recovery in 6-8 weeks without the need for surgery, the team announced Wednesday.

“David was recently discharged from the Cleveland Clinic and is resting comfortably,” the Guardians said in a statement.

Fry was originally taken to Lutheran Medical Center after the injury and was moved to the Cleveland Clinic main campus.

Skubal was understandably upset when he saw his pitch hit Fry, and after the game, he wanted to see him in person to see how he was doing.

After word had spread among the clubhouse attendants, Vogt reached out to the Tigers pitcher and offered to drive him to the hospital where Fry was.

“That was pretty cool,” Skubal told reporters on Wednesday, per The Athletic. “I think that speaks volumes about who they are over there and the guys that they got.”

Skubal, Vogt and several Guardians players visited the hospital after the game. The Cleveland manager left with the sense that Fry was in a good place.

“We left feeling like he’s himself. He’s injured. He’s hurting. He’s in a ton of pain. But as far as life goes, he’s gonna be OK,” Vogt told reporters.

Fry’s wife, Rebekah, was not in town Tuesday, but arrived in Cleveland on Wednesday to be with him.
