This is the horror moment a glam rock Spanish singer in a glittery black catsuit and high-heeled boots plunges off a revolving stage during a live performance.

Singer-songwriter and TV personality Mario Vaquerizo ended up in hospital after twisting over backwards and falling headfirst to the ground seconds after stumbling in his platform shoes as he punched his right fist in the air at the end of a song.

The 50-year-old showman admitted yesterday he ‘could have died or been left paralysed’ after leaving Caceres University Hospital near Spain’s western border with Portugal in a wheelchair wearing sunglasses and a Michael Jackson T-shirt.

Mario, who starred as himself in a MTV Spain reality series featuring his famous Mexican-born singer-songwriter and actress wife Alaska, took his tumble as he performed at a festival in Caceres with his group Nancys Rubias which translates as ‘Blond Nancys.’

He is ‘Anorexic Nancy’ in the glam rock and punk rock band, which has released five albums since its creation in 2004 and features two men and a woman known by their stage names of ‘Nancy O’, ‘Transvestite Nancy’ and ‘Nancy Reagan.’

Mario revealed after returning to his home in Madrid: ‘I’ve fractured two vertebrae in my spine but what worries me most is my eyesight.

‘The doctors have said the fall generated a liquid which invaded the retina and at the moment everything’s blurred and I can’t see anything close-up.

‘All the doctors and nurses have said I was very lucky.

‘A fall like that can kill you or leave you paralysed.’

Saying he had ended up unconscious on his back, he told a Spanish TV programme: ‘The security measures in place were okay. It was just bad luck and me tripping and losing my balance.

‘I’ve never been knocked out like that. I woke up in my dressing room with my friends around me crying.’

Alaska, who has had number one hits in several countries around the world and starred as herself alongside her husband/manger in the MTV Spain reality series Alaska and Mario, was in Venice when he was rushed to hospital on Saturday.

She admitted in her first comments yesterday: ‘It was a terrible scare.’

Mario, known in Spain for his brilliant sense of humour, admitted in a recent interview: ‘I’d planned to be a rockstar for a day with my friends, but it ended up becoming a profession.

‘It began as a hobby and all we wanted to do was have a good time. That attitude has meant the Nancys have carried on.’

Last week pop star Olivia Rodrigo fell through the stage’s trap door in a horrifying moment from the Australian leg of her Guts tour.

Fans were left gasping in shock as the 21-year-old singer plummeted out of sight at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena in front of 14,000 fans.

Fortunately she was unharmed and returned to the stage to reassure the audience: ‘Oh my God! That was fun, I’m OK! Sometimes there is just a hole in the stage, OK… where was I?’
