Shedeur Sanders gets Pro Bowl nod to replace Drake Maye in rare Browns honor

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders will replace Drake Maye in the Pro Bowl games after the Patriots signal-caller helped his team advance to the Super Bowl on Sunday, according to ESPN.

The Patriots beat the Broncos 10-7 to win the AFC title and will face the Seahawks, who won Sunday’s NFC championship game against the Rams, 31-27, in Super Bowl 2026, taking place in Santa Clara on Feb. 8.

Sanders, a fifth-round pick by Cleveland in the 2025 NFL Draft, joins the Bills’ Josh Allen and the Chargers’ Justin Herbert as this year’s Pro Bowl QBs for the AFC.

In his rookie season, Sanders went 3-4 in seven starts, finishing 120 of 212 passing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, with a passer rating of 68.1.

The 23-year-old, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, is the first Browns quarterback to be named to the Pro Bowl since Derek Anderson in 2008.

Sanders helped the Browns to wins over Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers and Joe Burrow’s Bengals in his final two starts.

He had 111 passing yards and 26 rushing yards with a fumble lost in Cleveland’s 20-18 win in Cincinnati in Week 18.

In his end-of-season press conference, Browns GM Andrew Berry wouldn’t commit to Sanders as Cleveland’s starting quarterback next season.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was also non-committal about Sanders’ future in Cleveland in his press conference.

Cleveland finished the 2025 season ranked 31st in scoring offense, 30th in total offense and 4th in total defense.

The Browns fired head coach Kevin Stefanski following a disappointing 5-12 finish to the season.

Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski pulled out of consideration for the open position, ESPN reported on Monday.

The remaining candidates for the Browns’ job include defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn and former Ravens OC Todd Monken.
