Perhaps it wasn’t luck that Shane Lowry’s tee shot on the par 3 No. 6 hole at the Masters on Saturday went in for a hole-in-one, as he became the first golfer ever to have two career holes-in-one at the tournament.
“Maybe I’m just that good,” Lowry told reporters in a cheeky response after the third round.
Lowry, 39, sent a jolt through Augusta with his hole-in-one, pumping his arms in celebration as the crowd went wild.
“I made one a couple weeks ago in Houston. So like, you don’t ever expect to make a hole in one. But it went in I just couldn’t believe it,” Lowry said. “Obviously you’re out there and you’re in the hunt at The Masters and you’re making a hole-in-one, it’s pretty cool.”
Lowry’s previous hole-in-one at Augusta came on the 16th hole in 2016.
His Saturday ace was part of a big 4-under 68 round that left him at 9-under for the tournament. He entered Sunday in fourth place, two strokes back of co-leaders Cameron Young and pal Rory McIlroy, the reigning champion.
Lowry won the 2019 British Open, his lone major victory. His best finish at The Masters came in 2022, when he finished tied for third.
Barring a collapse, Lowry is in position to snag his second career top-10 finish at Augusta.
It would mark a bounce-back after a rough 2025 at the four majors. He finished tied for 42nd at last year’s Masters and tied for 40th at the British Open while missing the cut at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open.
He missed the cut at last month’s Players Championship but shot below 70 in all four rounds at the Houston Open in his final tune-up before this weekend’s Masters.
