Pete Alonso has a new home.

The Polar Bear is headed to the Orioles on a five-year, $155 million contract, noti.group’s Jon Heyman reports, ending the sweepstakes for the slugger — and finishing his seven-year run with the Mets, who lost Edwin Diaz to the Dodgers on Tuesday.

There are no opt-outs or deferrals in Alonso’s contract, noti.group’s Joel Sherman reports.

Alonso is coming off a season in which he hit 38 home runs while hitting .272/.347/.524 while playing all 162 regular-season games. He led the National League in doubles with 41.

Alonso, 31, was one of the biggest free agents this offseason after he opted out of his contract following the World Series.

The first baseman made the trip to Orlando for the winter meetings in order to meet with teams interested in his services, though he did not sit down with Mets brass.

However, the Mets made clear they hoped Alonso would return to Queens, where he’s spent the entirety of his seven-year major league career.

“How much do I want him? Of course I want him,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters in Orlando. “His ability to post every day, when you don’t have to worry about who’s playing first base and who’s going to be hitting in the middle of your lineup, you can’t beat that. So he earned [his free agency]. He’s going through the process right now, and I think David’s been very vocal how much we want him. We’ll see how it goes here.”

This was the second consecutive offseason that Alonso hit the market.

Last cycle, Alonso didn’t sit down with the Mets front office until February, when they came to terms on a two-year, $54 million deal that included an opt-out for 2026.

Alonso made his MLB debut in 2019, and he went on to hit .260/.358/.583 with an MLB rookie record of 53 home runs.

Alonso, a five-time MLB All-Star, was a Silver Slugger winner for the first time in 2025.
