PepsiCo is recalling more than 200 cases of Schweppes Zero Sugar Ginger Ale because the beverages were found to have contained sugar.

The Food and Drug Administration announced that the recall would affect products that were shipped to Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The government agency said that PepsiCo launched an internal investigation which found that some of the products labeled “zero sugar” actually contained “full sugar” — making it unsafe for those with diabetes and others who are told to avoid sugar.

The FDA said that the recall was initiated on March 9.

It is not known if the affected products were consumed by customers.

The FDA is warning the public that the products labeled with the following code should be avoided: May 20 24 MAY20240520VS02164 — MAY20240550VS0216.

The Post has sought comment from PepsiCo.

The “zero sugar” ginger ale is aimed at competing with Coca-Cola’s “Coke Zero” — the sugarless soft drink that contains artificial sweeteners.
