Novak Djokovic proves once again he can make time stop at US Open

Time waits for no man, but maybe it does for Novak Djokovic.

The 38-year-old Colossus of the Court continued to straddle generations while becoming the oldest player ever to advance to the semifinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments in a single season after defeating Taylor Fritz 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in Tuesday night’s marquee U.S. Open quarterfinal at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Djokovic started with Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Co. Now he moves on to face 22-year-old Carlos Alcaraz in Friday’s semifinal. And if Djokovic defeats the Spaniard, he will almost certainly hook up with 24-year-old Jannik Sinner in the final.

Sinner and Alcaraz, by the way, have combined to win the past seven majors over the past two years since Djokovic won here in 2023. They comprise The Big 2, without a 3rd in sight. But if there is anyone who can survive this gauntlet, if there is anyone who can make history again, it will be the man who has done that over and over again.
