Nissan is recalling more than 173,000 US vehicles over an issue with the fuel pump that can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday.

Certain 2013-2021 NV200 Van; 2014-2017 and 2019 NV200 Taxi; and 2015-2018 Chevrolet City Express vehicles are included in the recall.

About 4.7% of the 173,301 units – or 8,145 cars – are estimated to have the defect.

The sensor harness that measures the temperature of the fuel tank may have been installed incorrectly in some vehicles.

In this case, the harness can come into contact with the fuel pump connector and wear away at its protective coating – causing an electrical short.

This could result in a blown fuel pump fuse, which could unexpectedly stall the engine and increase the risk of a crash, Nissan said in a recall report.

In some cases, drivers might notice an indicator light illuminate in the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, alerting them to a short circuit.

Owners should bring their vehicles to a dealership, where the sensor harness will be rerouted or the fuel pump will be replaced with a new one, free of charge.

Notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners by Dec. 3, 2025, the automaker said.
