Mike Tomlin is taking his talents to Sunday nights.

Long expected to transition to television after walking away from the Steelers, the former head coach is joining NBC to be a studio analyst for the “Sunday Night Football” pregame show, “Football Night in America,” The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reported Tuesday.

Tomlin’s addition is part of a shakeup at NBC that saw fellow Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy get canned after 17 years with the network.

While host Maria Taylor and analysts Devin McCourty and Jason Garrett are expected back on the pregame show, the futures of Jac Collinsworth, Chris Simms and Rodney Harrison are up in the air, per The Athletic. McCourty and NBC have to work out a new contract, the report said, adding ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio is also expected back.

“Football Night in America” averaged 8.8 million viewers during the 2025 regular season, its largest audience ever, and was the most-watched sports studio show for the 20th straight year, NBC said.

Fox showed interest in the 54-year-old Tomlin and at one point was considered the favorite, the report said, as the network had a hole on its “Fox NFL Sunday” pregame show following Jimmy Johnson’s retirement.

Tomlin stepped down as Steelers coach in January after 19 seasons following Pittsburgh’s wild-card loss to the Texans.

He led the Steelers to a Super Bowl XLIII victory in his second season at the helm and never had a losing season. While he led Pittsburgh to the playoffs 13 times, they failed to win a game in each of their last six postseason appearances. Their last playoff win came nine years ago over the Chiefs in the divisional round.

Pittsburgh native Mike McCarthy took over for Tomlin and could reunite with Aaron Rodgers, who still hasn’t told the Steelers what his 2026 plans are.
