Kodai Senga volunteered to Mets officials on Friday that he would like an opportunity to face hitters next week, giving team brass one last piece of information before a potential wild-card series roster materializes.

The right-hander’s request has been granted.

And even following his shaky outing for Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, the Mets haven’t ruled out the possibility of a Senga return this season.

“There is a certain level of trust with him that he knows himself better than we know him,” pitching coach Jeremy Hefner said, when asked if Senga could still show enough to secure a postseason roster spot. “In the best way, he has a keen awareness of where his body is at and if he says he’s good, then there’s some level of trust from the organization to believe that.”
