Keyshawn Wilder, an assistant football coach at Shenandoah University and the nephew of NFL Hall of Famer Ray Lewis, has died, the Winchester, Va., institution announced Friday in a statement.

Further details surrounding Wilder’s death were not provided.

“It is with deep sadness that Shenandoah Athletics announces the passing of beloved former-student athlete and assistant football coach, Keyshawn Wilder. Wilder’s dedication to the Shenandoah football team was profound both on and off the field. His hard work and compassion for the game translated directly to those around him, and his incredible leadership helped pave the way for new leaders to follow in his footsteps,” the statement read, according to The Northern Virginia Daily.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, teammates and the entire Shenandoah Football family during this difficult time. We stand with them in solidarity and prayer, and we pray for the strength to bear this very painful loss. May his soul rest in peace.”

Wilder, a native of Baltimore, played football collegiately at Shenandoah University as a cornerback.

He appeared in 38 games with the Hornets across four seasons, missing the 2020-21 campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and posted 142 tackles.

Wilder’s mother, Lakeisha, is Lewis’ sister.

The retired linebacker, 50, played for the Ravens throughout his 17-year career and won two Super Bowls.

Lewis was elected to the Pro Bowl 13 times and earned First-team All-Pro honors seven times.
