For once, John Krasinski is angry.

Starting May 23, the typically even-keeled actor — who produced a show called “Some Good News” at the height of the pandemic —  will star in “Angry Alan” for twelve weeks at the 296-seat Studio Seaview in Midtown Manhattan.

In the darkly comedic one-man show, Krasinski plays a divorced dad named Roger who becomes obsessed with Angry Alan, a fictional conspiracy theorist and men’s right activist. In a four-star review of an earlier iteration of the show, Time Out London raved “[playwright Penelope] Skinner’s script is not only extremely funny, but it also makes Roger unexpectedly likeable, even as it condemns his views.”

The production isn’t “The Office,” “Jack Ryan” and “A Quiet Place” star’s first foray into live theater. Over the course of his career, Krasinski’s performed live in a handful of high-profile shows. Most notably, he starred in the off-Broadway premiere of “Dry Powder” opposite Hank Azaria and Claire Danes in 2016.

“I’m thrilled to be back doing theater,” the 45-year-old actor said in a video chat with the show’s director Sam Gold. “Especially theater in New York, especially a new play, especially off-Broadway. All these things are really, really exciting to me so I just hope I don’t screw it up.”

More than anything though, he might be most excited about the material at hand.

“[My] agent sent me this play and I think I texted them on page five that I was doing this play. Like, I have to do this play. [Playwright Penelope Skinner] is so talented. She wrote such an unbelievable play…with one of the most human characters I’ve seen onstage in a long time.”

If you want to see People Magazine’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive spread his wings as a thespian — “it’s probably the most terrifying thing I’ve done in my career” he admitted — tickets are available for all upcoming “Angry Alan” performances.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on tickets was $132 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Other dates have tickets starting anywhere from $145 to $444 before fees.

About “Angry Alan”

Curious what exactly you’re getting into with this show?

“Angry Alan’s” synopsis explains “Roger is divorced, demoted, and drifting – lost in an era that no longer makes sense. But when an online personality promises clarity, Roger dives in without looking back. Timely, provocative, and darkly comedic, Angry Alan explores one man’s journey down the digital rabbit hole – examining how far he’s willing to go, and how much he’s prepared to lose, for validation in a world where ‘everybody’s changing the rules.’”

If you want to go down the rabbit hole yourself, you can read another review of the show from its 2018 run at the Edinburgh Fringe Fest here.

Big stars on and off Broadway

There’s never a shortage of star power in midtown Manhattan (and downtown).

• Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal in “Othello”

• George Clooney in “Good Night and Good Luck”

• Kieran Culkin, Bill Burr and Bob Odenkirk in “Glengarry Glen Ross”

• Leslie Odom Jr. in “Hamilton”

• Idina Menzel in “Redwood”
