Jets' trade deadline makes clear what their mission is all about

There has been a lot of talk this week about Jets coach Aaron Glenn’s coy answers in news conferences when he is asked who the starting quarterback will be. Some think Glenn should just answer the question. Some think reporters should stop asking the question if he won’t answer it.

Here’s how we’ll know if Tuesday was a successful day for the Jets: if reporters are not asking Glenn about who his quarterback is in 2027, 2028, 2029 and beyond.

That means the Jets used the haul they got Tuesday in trades for Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams in some form or fashion to land the franchise quarterback they have been searching for since 1976. The Jets now have five first-round picks in the next two years and three second-round picks. That’s called ammo for Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey.

It’s ammo to move up in the draft to get a quarterback. Or it’s ammo to trade for a veteran quarterback. Or it’s ammo to take wide receivers, offensive linemen and running backs to give their quarterback the support system that Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson never had.
