Aaron Glenn insists that he has a plan. That the Jets have a plan. That even if 1-7 and a deadline selloff doesn’t look like it, there’s some semblance of direction and on-the-same-page thinking at 1 Jets Drive.
General manager Darren Mougey didn’t want to call it a teardown, but after trading Sauce Gardner (to the Colts) and Quinnen Williams (to the Cowboys), the Jets are positioned with two first-round picks next year, two second-round picks next year and three first-round picks in 2027.
That’s a lot of draft capital. That’s a lot of potential for selecting franchise-altering players — and maybe a quarterback. Mougey will have swing after swing to get Glenn cornerstones to execute his plan and make the Jets relevant again.
But the reality of the current New York football situation is that the Jets are a mess, the Giants are a mess and there’s no clear path back to postseason contention for either franchise. In a way, this year’s Giants are essentially next year’s Jets in terms of their timeline.
