The Jets hired Frank Reich as their offensive coordinator on Wednesday.

Reich replaces Tanner Engstrand, who lasted just one season on the job. The Jets finished 29th in both yards and points per game last year.

Reich takes over an offense with a big question at quarterback and in need of more weapons to help Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, a pending free agent.

Reich was one of three finalists for the job and interviewed with Aaron Glenn for a second time on Tuesday. The team spoke to Greg Roman and Darrell Bevell on Monday.

“Frank has a rare combination of experience, creativity, and calm under pressure,” Glenn said. “He’s lived this game from every angle — as a quarterback in this league and as a coach who’s led offenses at the highest level. He is unique in his ability to see the game for what it is right now and adapt when appropriate. Frank understands offense and how to utilize the strengths of players. I am looking forward to how he will help this team have success.”

Glenn wanted to add a veteran coach on the offense. Originally, the plan was to keep Engstrand but take away play-calling from him. Engstrand did not want to stay with the Jets in that role and joined the Falcons staff.

Reich, 64, has been a two-time head coach in the NFL with the Colts and Panthers. He currently is a senior adviser with Stanford. He served as the interim head coach for the Cardinal in 2025.

He spent five seasons as the head coach of the Colts from 2018-22 and went 40-33-1 in the regular season with two playoff appearances. He was fired midway through his one season in charge of the Panthers.

Reich previously was the offensive coordinator for the Eagles in 2016-17, winning a Super Bowl in his second year. He also was the offensive coordinator for the Chargers from 2014-15.

In addition to Reich, Roman and Bevell, the Jets did virtual interviews with Ronald Curry and Lunda Wells.

Reich played 10 games for the Jets in 1996 when the team went 1-15. He and Glenn were teammates that year.
