First-year Patriots coach Mike Vrabel emerged with a bloodied cheek after jumping into a pile during a joint practice melee last week with the Commanders, and this was quarterback Drake Maye afterward:

“That’s what we’re trying to build, and it starts with the head coach — intensity, bringing it every day, taking no crap when we’re out there on the field. The mentality, I like it. That’s what you want.”

It is the exact mentality first-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is trying to build, so do not be surprised if fireworks light up the sky in Florham Park on Tuesday in Round 1 of the Jets-Giants joint scrimmage, then in Round 2 on Wednesday in East Rutherford, and finally in Round 3 on Saturday night at MetLife Stadium.

And there are emerging signs Brian Daboll will be bringing with him a larger pack of hungry young dawgs replete with swagger, bolstered by Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart, than he has been able to field in his first three years on the job.
