Another returner bites the dust.

The Jets waived Isaiah Williams on Saturday, five days after he fumbled the opening kickoff of the second half and later called a fair catch at his own 3-yard line against the Dolphins.

Williams becomes the second kick returner cut loose after a fumble this season.

The Jets cut Xavier Gipson after he had a costly fumble on a return in Week 1.

On Friday, Williams said he was trying to learn from his mistakes.

“You hate anytime you hurt the team,” Williams said, unaware he would be cut a day later. “That’s the last thing that you want to do. But on the other side of it, there were a lot of things that I learned from and I grew from personally. Bouncing back from this week, the biggest thing was just letting it go. It happened. Moving on from it, getting better. This whole week, the biggest thing on my mind was ball security, making sure I protect the ball every rep that I get. That’s my biggest thing this week on the football field because we just can’t have those things.”

As for the fair catch, Williams said he was trying to make a play after his earlier fumble.

“That’s something that can’t happen,” Williams said. “That comes more from me making a mistake early in the game and now I’m trying to force everything else. That came from: I made a mistake, and now I’m trying to make a play to make up for that mistake. That shouldn’t be like that. I have to let the game come to me.”

The rule of thumb is that you don’t field punts inside the 10-yard line.

“My mind wasn’t on the 10 [-yard line] at all,” Williams said. “My mind was on returning this ball regardless. Then, at the last minute, I see [No.] 22 out of my peripheral [vision] and I don’t know where I’m at. The only reason I knew where I was was the crowd. That’s why I looked.”

The Jets ruled out RB/KR Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) on Saturday.

The team signed LB Mykal Walker off of the practice squad.

They elevated S Dean Clark and RB Avery Williams from the practice squad.

Avery Williams will likely return kicks.

LB Jamien Sherwood was fined $17,389 for hitting a defenseless player in the loss to Miami.

Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson has 34 receptions this season. That is second among all players in the league and the most by a tight end through four games in the Super Bowl era.

Jets rookie CB Azareye’h Thomas will face brother Juanyeh Thomas, who is a Cowboys safety.
