Jakobi Meyers wanted to remain in Jacksonville, and now he will.

The Jaguars wide receiver, and arguably one of the best trade deadline acquisitions this season, and the organization are finalizing a three-year contract extension, ESPN reported Thursday.

The deal is worth $60 million, with $40 million of that guaranteed.

Meyers was slated to become a free agent in 2026, but the deal will now tie him to Jacksonville through 2028.

“I try not to [think about the future], but of course, it creeps in,” Meyers said in a story published by the Florida Times-Union on Thursday morning before the news. “I would love to be here, but I understand the business of football. I gave a lot of control to my agent [in 2023] and said, ‘Just get me a lot of money and I’ll go play football.’ Now, I just want a good situation and win games.”

The 29-year-old receiver became a big part of the Jags’ success since he arrived in Jacksonville via trade with the Raiders in early November.

Meyers has recorded 27 catches for 355 yards and three touchdowns in the six games he’s played in following the trade, and Jacksonville has gone 5-1 in that same span, sitting atop the AFC South with a 10-4 record.

The Jaguars have been clearly very happy with the results of the acquisition, and one member of the coaching staff called Meyers “one of my all-time favorites.”

“I’ve been fortunate to be around some really, really talented players because of all of them are like-minded and after the same goal — be the best version of themselves and they just don’t want to win, they want to be a champion,” Jaguars receivers coach Edgar Bennett said.

The Jaguars are on the precipice of clinching the playoffs heading into this weekend’s matchup with the Broncos.
