Injured Steph Curry will return to practice in ‘coming days,’ continues to make ‘good progress’

Steph Curry accompanied the Warriors on their six-game road trip, but the Golden State superstar won’t return to the court until the team returns home.

That said, the Warriors released their most positive update yet on Curry, who missed his 21st consecutive game Saturday night with inflammation in his right knee. Not only is Curry, 38, continuing to make “good progress,” he is expected to return to practice “in the coming days,” according to the team.

Curry has been doing individual work while with the team on the road trip, which the Warriors said has “intensified.” Rick Celebrini, the head of their medical staff, met the team in Atlanta, where they were set to take on the Hawks.

Coach Steve Kerr told reporters that the plan is for Curry to participate in a scrimmage Sunday before the team departs for Dallas, where they finish the road trip against the Mavericks on Monday.

The earliest Curry could return, given his next reevaluation, would be Wednesday against the Nets to begin a two-game homestand. That would give him 10 regular-season games.

“I think (Sunday) is probably the big day, and we’ll know more at that point,” Kerr said. “We’ll see how (it) goes.”

Kerr said earlier this week that he expected Curry to return this season, “for sure.” He appears to be trending in that direction.

Curry, averaging 27.2 points per game, last played on Jan. 30, when the Warriors were 27-23 and in eighth place in the Western Conference. They have gone 6-14 during his current absence, falling to 33-37 and into the No. 10 spot, behind the Clippers and Trail Blazers.

The Warriors also provided an update on Moses Moody, who has missed the past nine games with a sprained right wrist. Moody is also set to return to practice in the coming days, the team said. He has intensified his shooting drills and other on-court work and will be reevaluated again Tuesday.
