Despite nearly being eliminated from the World Baseball Classic ahead of the knockout round, Team USA will play in the quarterfinals tonight against Canada.
After an 8-6 loss to Italy in its final game of the pool round, Team USA’s fate was in the hands of Italy’s matchup with Mexico. The team eventually advanced thanks to Italy’s huge 9-1 victory.
Now, Team USA will face Canada in today’s game — it marks the third time in less than a month that the United States will play our neighbors to the north in a major international competition following both the women’s and men’s hockey gold medal games at the Olympics.
