For the first time this postseason, the Toronto Blue Jays are facing elimination as the ALCS moves back to their home field.
Tied 2-2 going into Friday night’s Game 5, the Seattle Mariners pulled ahead for an eventual 6-2 victory. Early on, it looked like it could be anyone’s game, but a five-run eighth inning — with a homer from Cal Raleigh and a Eugenio Suarez grand slam — ensured the Mariners victory and put them one win away from a franchise first World Series appearance.
The Blue Jays, who had the best home record in the American League during the regular season, will now have a chance to tie the series back up at home.
“I’d say we’re in a great spot,” said Toronto’s Ernie Clement after Game 5. “We’ve got a chance. That’s all we need.”

Mariners vs. Blue Jays Game 6 starting pitchers
Logan Gilbert will be on the mound for the Mariners tonight. In his last start, during Game 2 of the ALCS, Gilbert gave up three runs that tied the game before being pulled after three innings.
Rookie Trey Yesavage, who also started Game 2, will start tonight. Yesavage was charged with five runs over four innings in that game.
