The last quarterfinal of the 2026 World Cup is here, and it includes the defending champions.
Argentina will face Switzerland tonight, July 11, in Kansas City.
It took a huge comeback to get here, as Argentina went down 1-0 early in their Round of 16 match against Egypt. Egypt scored again, and with just 11 minutes left in regulation time, Argentina scored. It was the first of three unanswered goals scored. Lionel Messi had the equalizing goal and Enzo Fernández buried the game-winner two minutes into stoppage time.
Switzerland also had a bumpy road to the quarterfinals. Scoreless after full time in the Round of 16 against Colombia, the match went into extra time. After extra time, the match was still tied 0-0, and Switzerland eventually won in a penalty shootout in which they scored four goals to Colombia’s three.
