‘Tis the season.

Amazon has brought back its annual “Thank My Driver” program allowing customers to send $5 holiday tips to drivers at no cost.

Customers simply need to tell an Alexa-equipped device such as Amazon’s Echo speakers, “Thank My Driver” to send a tip to drivers as they juggle packages and the holiday shopping bonanza.

Amazon customers who do not own an Alexa device can simply open the Amazon app or website and search “Thank my driver.”

The program, which started last Wednesday, is fully funded by Amazon and active until it reaches a cap of 2 million “thank yous” from customers. There is a maximum of one “thank you” per delivery.

“Drivers deliver for our customers every day, and we want to show them our sincere appreciation and connect them with the customers they serve,” Amazon said in a blog post.

The feature was first introduced during the 2022 holiday season. This year, the tip program comes as Amazon is laying off 30,000 workers.

Along with providing tips, Amazon is entering the top 1,000 delivery associates, 200 delivery partners and 50 warehouse workers each day to win a $100 award through Dec. 31.

Amazon Prime is a paid membership that offers customers free shipping and access to special deals and sales events, like Prime Week over the summer and Prime Big Deal Days in October.

Customers can sign up for a free 30-day trial. An Amazon membership costs $14.99 a month or $139 per year. There is a monthly or annual plan. The latter saves customers about $40.

There are also discounted Amazon Prime memberships for young adults between the ages of 18 and 24, as well as for customers who receive SNAP, EBT, Medicaid or other government aid.
