It was Nov. 27, 2019, the Rangers were home on Thanksgiving Eve against the Candy Canes and Mika Zibanejad was returning from a 13-game absence after sustaining a neck injury on a reverse hit from Patrice Bergeron a month to the day earlier.

That was the night that David Quinn, in his second season as a head coach, constructed his four-righty power-play unit that featured Zibanejad, Artemi Panarin, Ryan Strome, either Tony DeAngelo or Adam Fox at the right point and lefty Chris Kreider playing net-front.

At one point, Quinn was asked why he put that unit together. His answer was quick and to the point.

“Because they’re our five best offensive players,” he said.
