Jeff Albert was named the Mets’ director of major league hitting in November following three seasons overseeing the organization’s hitting development in the minor leagues.

A former hitting coach with the Astros and Cardinals, the 45-year-old Albert is part of a revamped Mets’ staff. He spoke to Post Sports+ this week.

Sports+: Why is your title director of major league hitting rather than hitting coach?

JA: There’s so many more things that go on around the offense. There is the traditional hitting coach and the things you are doing in the cage, and that requires a lot of time commitment. And one of the things I think is very strong here is all the departments that are related to hitting. That’s our training room, performance department, strength and conditioning, biomechanics, analysts. I think a big part of my role in this case is to make sure we have alignment and all those things are essentially getting applied well in our area.
