Hearing those who consider themselves to be diehards say, “I’m taking a break from the Giants this Sunday,” is not about a sudden rush to go apple picking or leaf peeping. It has reached the point where mental health and emotional stability can be compromised with too much exposure to this team. Perhaps this franchise needs to come with one of those Surgeon General warnings: “Three hours of Giants football can be hazardous to your health.’’

The latest dreary, dog day afternoon with the Giants was last Sunday’s 34-24 loss to the 49ers, a home game in name only for the home team. The sea of red-clad fans got so boisterous for their Niners that the Giants had to go to a silent count on offense so they could hear amid the noise.

“Which you never really want to do at home,’’ Wan’Dale Robinson said. “But, it’s a part of it.”

This should never really be a part of it. But it is a part of it with the Giants.
