The Post has been granted unprecedented access to the world of the Giants’ scouting department. In Part 6 of this continuing series, we meet Dennis Hickey, a longtime NFL executive in his fourth season as the Giants’ assistant director of player personnel. Hickey played safety at Coffeyville Community College and for three years at Tulsa. He has a 2002 Super Bowl ring from his 18 years with the Buccaneers and has also worked for the Dolphins and Bills. Hickey, 54, is married with one son, one daughter and two grandchildren.

General manager Joe Schoen on Hickey: “Dennis is a machine. Ever since I’ve known him, we were area scouts down in Oklahoma a long time together. He can handle the college, he can handle the pro, he can also handle the leadership role, he can handle keeping track of the scouts, where the players are, where they aren’t, have weekly calls with the scouts. This guy is football 24/7, whatever he can do to help the New York Giants, that’s what’s on his mind. He’s a nonstop worker, which I appreciate. I don’t think anybody can keep up with him.’’

Q: The first time you met Joe Schoen?

A: On the road, scouting. He was in my area a lot, typically when you’re on the road with people you see, they’re real people. You saw he was driven, hardworking, had an eye for talent. Sometimes you’re at a school, I like this guy’s wiring, this is gonna be a good day at a school. That was always the case with Joe.
